A Photo Tour of Uganda

Wednesday June 1, 2005
uganda.jpg In 1971 a nasty little man took power in Uganda and transformed the once peaceful and relatively prosperous nation into chaos. His name was Idi Amin, you've probably heard of him. His rule was short and brutal but unfortunately for the Ugandan people the next guy that came along in 1979, Milton Obote, wasn't any nicer. Together they managed to deplete the country of its natural resources, wildlife, birdlife and a decent life for the Ugandan people. Since 1986 however, under President Museveni, things have started to improve.

The country that was described as the "Pearl of Africa" by Winston Churchill is regaining its former reputation as one of the best tourist destinations in Africa. The birdlife accounts for a quarter of all species in Africa. Uganda's wildlife roster includes mountain gorillas, chimpanzees, tree-climbing lions, elephants, buffalo and more. The capital city Kampala is actually a pleasant place to walk around in and much safer than neighboring Nairobi or Dar es Salaam. Perhaps the best asset Uganda has is its people. Their hospitality and friendliness is legendary throughout the continent. Enjoy this photo tour of Uganda; I hope it will inspire you to visit soon.
