New Direct Flight to Accra, Ghana

Tuesday August 30, 2005
Once you start looking into flights to Africa you'll find there aren't a lot of options for direct flights to the continent from the US. Thanks to Michael Zagurek for writing in and telling me about a new service run by North American Airlines. The relatively small airline (with 8 passenger aircraft in its fleet) has started a weekly service from New York (JFK) direct to Accra, Ghana. Flights leave the US on Friday and the return service leaves Ghana every Sunday.

Ghana is a good stepping off point for all onward flights throughout West Africa. For more flying tips read my article "How to find a cheap flight to Africa".

Does this airline still book flights to Ghana for a single person?

I’m afraid this airline does not fly to Accra from the US anymore. You’ll have to check with KLM, BA or another airline. I know that STA Travel sometimes has one way fares (but often for students). Also, take care when you purchase a one-way ticket, some countries won’t allow you to enter as a tourist unless you have a return ticket with you. If you are a national of Ghana, you may be ok, but double check with the Embassy.
