After racing 7000 bumpy miles through 7 countries in 15 days the exhausted competitors in the Dakar Rally made it to the finish line this Sunday, 15th January (2006). Considered to be one of the most dangerous races in the world, this year the rally claimed 3 lives: Australian motorcyclist Andy Caldecott and two young spectators Boubacar Diallo and Mohamed N'Daw.

And the winners are...

  • In the Motorbike Category 240 motorbikes started the race and 93 finished with Marc Coma as the victor. This is the first win for the Spaniard who was riding a KTM motorbike.

  • In the Car Category, 66 crews made it to the finish line out of 188, with former skiing world champ Luc Alphand (France) as the winner. The favorite to win the car category was 8 time Dakar rally winner Peterhansel but unfortunately he collided with a tree during the 12th stage of the race which set him back.

  • In the Truck Category 35 trucks made it to Dakar out of 80 starters. Vladimir Chagin from Russia won the category driving a Kamaz, it was a 5th Dakar Rally victory for the veteran.
