What's Your Favorite Movie Set in Africa?

Tuesday August 8, 2006
Movies about Africa have inspired many a traveler. Out of Africa probably did more to attract visitors to Kenya than any tourism marketing blitz could hope for. Take the poll and see if your favorite movie is shared by others. Leave a comment if I left your favorite out of this short list.

Poll: What's Your Favorite Movie Set in Africa?

While there are plenty of African movies and TV series made each year, we don't get to see most of them because distribution is limited. Luckily, you can download them right to your home computer from a site called Africast. For the latest releases from Nollywood, Nigeria's booming film industry, check out Africanmovies.com.

There are a lots of other African movies that could be included on this list like Cry the Beloved Country (1959 and 1999), Lumumba, Sankofa, The Passenger (Jack Nicholson and the Polisario Front in Western Sahara), The Amistad, In the Heart of the Country or even Ace Ventura, Call of the Wild or Gods must be Crazy. The last two were full of goofy stereotypes, but I laughed pretty hard nonetheless…
