Global Monopoly -- Vote for Africa!

Monday February 4, 2008
Granger Bay, Cape Town, South Africa Parker Brothers, the makers of the Monopoly board game, are asking for your vote to decide on what world cities to include on their new World Edition Monopoly board game. I honestly don't understand how they can call this their "world edition" and then just include 2 cities (Cairo and Cape Town) from the entire African continent. How can Vilnius in Lithuania or Cardiff in Wales be more of a world city than Dakar, Lagos or Marrakech?

I didn't expect Lilongwe or Gaborone to make the cut, but really, please vote for Cairo and Cape Town so Africa can at least get a little representation! The 20 cities with the highest votes on Feb. 29 (2008) will make it onto the board. There is also a wildcard opportunity where you can vote for Johannesburg (as the only African city on this list). The wildcard vote takes place in the first week of March.

Bravo, Anouk, for raising this question. I couldn’t believe that they didn’t consider other cities from the African continent.

Ignorance of Africa gleefully continues unabated.
