Fes, Morocco's Medieval Gem

Sunday September 7, 2008
Fes travel tanneries If you like jostling for space with a donkey while shopping for some fresh mint, you'll love visiting Fes (Fez) in Morocco. The old walled part of town, known as Fes el-Bali is a magical place where life appears to have changed little since medieval times. Getting lost in the narrow streets and bargaining in the many bazaars is a wonderful way to spend a few days. Fes is famous for its quality leather goods and the tanneries are still curing leather with a pungent mixture of pigeon poop, acids and cow urine; a heady combination. See for yourself by checking out my Fes photo collection, taken when I visited the city in October 2007.
