Egypt is a very affordable destination and reputable companies like Adventure Center run excellent 10 day tours for under $1000. It may not be luxurious, but you'll get to cruise down the Nile on a Felucca (see image), and see some of Egypt's great sights. You could also get a cheap flight to London (or use your miles) and book an affordable package holiday from there.

• Kumuka offers budget tours and this particular one caught my eye as being quite unique (and cheap). A Madagascar Dhow Camping Safari (Dhow's are traditional sail boats) that takes you island hopping along Madagascar's pristine coast.
