Here's a purely personal list of the blogs that have inspired me in 2010. Next year I may have switch to a "favorite facebook page" list. It looks like the old blogging format is suffering in the face of overwhelming tweeting and status update competition.
- Andrew Harding on Africa - BBC's correspondent Andrew Harding covers all kinds of issues from life in Mogadishu's war-weary streets, to the art scene in Johannesburg. Always insightful, thoughtful and very well written.
- Big Africa Cycle - This being a travel site, I really enjoy Peter Gostelow's blog and particularly his photos, as he cycles his way through some of the lesser known parts of the continent, to raise money for the Against Malaria Foundation.
- Wildlife Direct Blogs -An unbelievable collection of bloggers working on the front lines of conservation. You can read about Maasai warriors working together with their communities to try and protect lions. Find out what their daily struggles are and how they cope. If you feel inspired, the site allows you to make a direct donation through paypal. This should be the template of all conservation efforts in Africa.
- Timbuktu Chronicles - "A view of Africa and Africans with a focus on entrepreneurship, innovation, technology, practical remedies and other self sustaining activities." - Emeka Okafor. Lots of inspiring ideas that deserve attention and prove that Africa is filled with untapped potential.
- WoZela! - A wonderful blog where people were asked to come up with creative ideas to reuse their World Cup vuvuzelas. The winning idea, (earrings) was handed over to local artists and craftsmen to produce and sell around the world.
