Blogging Africa
Tuesday June 14, 2005
If you're considering working in Africa it's worth checking out some of the web logs (blogs) being written by Peace Corps volunteers. The pleasures and strains of living and working in a remote part of Africa make for some interesting reading. The blogs also work well as travelogues since the volunteers tend to travel quite extensively within the countries they are stationed in. They also offer an excellent insight into regular village life, the people and the cultural norms as seen through young American eyes. It's fun to see the impact Africa has on these young people and you can see them change and develop as the blog goes on.
So far I'm enjoying:
If you are more interested in learning about Africa from its own people, there are plenty of Africans blogging their daily lives. A few of my favorites include:
- African Bullets and Honey by MMK in Kenya
- The Big Pharaoh from Egypt
- Black Looks an African Feminist from Nigeria
- Cherryflava from South Africa
