| A Photo Tour of Uganda: Index | |
| Uganda is a small country in East Africa that Winston Churchill referred to as the "Pearl of Africa" for its "magnificence, for variety of form and colour, for profusion of brilliant life". Uganda tumbled into disorder and chaos in the early 1970's when Idi Amin took power. The brutal dictator and his successor, the lesser known (but equally brutal) President Obote, managed to destroy 400,000 Ugandans as well as most of its bird and wildlife. In 1986 a new government took power under President Museveni and peace and stability returned once more. Uganda's wildlife and birdlife are back to their former glory, the National Parks and lodges are well run and clean and what is most striking is that the Ugandans are as friendly as ever. I hope this photo tour will inspire you to go to Uganda and experience it for yourself. Thanks to Bengt Korpas (who runs an excellent safari company in Uganda) for these images. |
