Uganda as a Safari DestinationIn the 1960's Uganda used to be as popular a tourist destination as Kenya. Visitors were attracted to the abundant wildlife, the well run game parks and lodges, decent roads, stable political situation and friendly people. Unfortunately the infamous Idi Amin soon changed that when he took power in 1971. The country became synonymous with corruption and violence which was continued by President Milton Obote once Idi Amin lost power in 1979. Obote was equally cruel and violent and the country didn't know peace until President Museveni finally took control in 1986. Since then Uganda has been both economically and politically stable. Safari operators are back in action and the well-run parks and lodges are ready to accommodate all tourists from backpackers to luxury mobile-safari clients.
