Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Bay) is located on the Algoa Bay in South Africa's Eastern Cape province. PE (as it's known locally) is known as South Africa's "Friendly City". It's the country's 5th largest city; an important port, industrial center and a vacation destination.

Getting to Port Elizabeth

PE has an airport, with domestic flights to and from cities in South Africa on Comair and South African Airlink. Many international flights codeshare and fly to PE via Cape Town and Jo'burg.

Renting a car is easy, driving to PE from Jo'burg will take 10.5 hours; from Cape Town, 7.5 hours; from Durban 9.5 hours; and 6.5 hours from Bloemfontein. Catch a long-distance bus on the Translux, Greyhound, Intercape Mainliner or Baz Bus (a backpacker favorite).
