South Africa's World Cup team automatically qualified for 2010 as the host nation. Bafana Bafana (the boys) were not realistically expected to make it beyond the first round but the crowds were electric and the vuvuzelas buzzed loudly at every match. Bafana Bafana did draw a relatively weak group and almost made it through to the second round, but fell down with a weak showing against Uruguay. Nevertheless, the boys gave a spirited performance and did their nation proud. The South African team's key players include Steven Pienaar, Siboniso Gaxa and Tsepho Masilela. They are coached by Brazilian Carlos Alberto Parreira, who led Brazil to the ultimate victory of winning the Cup in 1994.
