These photos from Southern Ethiopia were taken by professional photographer Robert Eilets on a visit in August 2009.
There are more than 50 unique tribes living in the Omo River Region of Southwestern Ethiopia, it's a fascinating destination for those interested in African culture. The remote location, which is barely accessible by 4 wheel-drive, has meant that traditional customs and beliefs are very much intact for many tribes in this area.
It's recommended you take a tour to visit this region because it's difficult to get to and around. There are some great opportunities to raft down the Omo River. For more about this region and a list of tour operators see my feature -- Omo River Tribes.
