1. Mount Nelson
Built in 1899 this is the grand old lady of the Cape Hotels, painted blush pink in the 1920s, with a rose bred to match the paintwork for her centenary in 1999. The “Nellie”, at the top end of the city centre, is a much-loved institution, famed for its gardens, its afternoon tea and the Cape Oasis restaurant.
