Aylos Bay Guest House - Akosombo (Eastern Region)

Aylos Bay is just a little haven of tranquility on the Volta River. You can swim, relax, take a ride in a canoe with a local fisherman and enjoy watching the local birdlife. The hotel is set in lovely gardens, with paths made of shells. Floating docks on the water provide a gorgeous shady spot to have a beer, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is excellent, try the fried shrimp and fresh tilapia, it's delicious. If you can, book one of the three rooms on the river front, the breezes and views are a treat. Rates for the river front rooms are 50 Cedis per night and include a wonderful cooked breakfast. Stop by the Dam, and pop into the Cedi Bead factory about 40 minutes away if you can.

Biakpa Mountain Paradise - Amedzofe (Volta Region)

Mountain Paradise, splendid location in the vicinity of the Amezofe
Mountains. Great hiking possibilities to Amedzofe (highest hilltop
settlement in Ghana) or along Kulugu river to falls. One of the very
few places were they serve Ghanaian coffee. Self-contained rooms are
not of high standard, but the location is breath-taking.

Liati Wote - (Volta Region)

Liati Wote is one of Ghana's most picturesque spots. The village hosts a community-based eco-lodge, with basic, clean rooms and shared bath facilities. The location is excellent for hiking up Ghana's highest peak -- Mount Afadjato (2905 feet). You can also walk to the lovely Tagbo Falls from here and arrange to camp en route with a tour company like Jolinaiko-Eco-tours. The local restaurant, Stella's Inn serves delicious local food, hosted by the whole family and accompanied with chilled drinks. Stella's prides itself on using only fresh, locally grown ingredients, you must try some of the mushroom dishes. This area is also famous for its numerous butterfly species.

Waterfall Lodge - Wli Waterfalls (Volta Region)

The Waterfall lodge is set in a great location, with views of the Wli Waterfall as well as Ghana's highest peak, Mount Afadjato. The lodge is run by a German couple and offers double rooms, chalets and camping facilities. Contact the lodge directly for reservations. Excellent meals are served at the lodge, under a lovely thatch-roofed, open-air hut. You can hike to the Wli Falls, up the mountain or rent bikes to explore the neighboring villages.

Mole Motel - Mole National Park (Northern Region)

Mole Motel, Mole National Park, Ghana, Recommended hotels Ghana

Mole National Park is Ghana's best wildlife park, you are very likely to see elephants here as well as buffalo, warthog, baboons and if you are very lucky, lion. It's quite a trek to get up to the park, so spend at least two or three nights at the Mole Motel. Considering it's really your only accommodation option at the park, it offers good value. Large, cool rooms start at $45 per night, you can also get your own bungalow with private verandah. There's a swimming pool on site and a restaurant. Service is slow and your food may get pinched by baboons but its a fun and relaxed place to stay. It's best to book the Mole Motel through a tour agency in Ghana as they don't have a web site.

Teagber/Catholic Guest House - Wa (Upper West Region)

One of the main reasons to visit this area is to check out the Wechiau Hippo Sanctuary. The Teagber Guest House offers a variety of rooms, from basic to more luxury, i.e. rooms with AC. The hotel is by no means fancy, but there's a good bar serving cold beers and decent kebabs. It's got a little more character and ambiance than the other offerings in town.

The Green House - Karimega (Upper East Region)

One of Ghana's many excellent eco-friendly accommodation options that is the very definition of community tourism, the Green House is simple and clean. The lodge is a traditional mud structure, located right in the middle of the savannah near the community of Karimega. Bucket showers are your only option, but with the heat in Ghana, you really don't miss hot water. Sleeping on the flat roof gives you the best star show on offer. The ever hospitable manager Ibrahim will make your stay a memorable one.
