My images of Amboseli don't really do the park and its wildlife justice, but I hope it gives you an idea of what to expect if you are planning a visit. It's a truly wonderful safari destination, both for its abundance of bird and other wildlife, as well as the cultural interaction with local Maasai. I visited during the short rains in December which meant there were hardly any other safari vehicles in sight.
I stayed at Porini Amboseli Camp, a wonderful tented camp located in the Selenkay Conservancy, a few miles from Amboseli National Park. The Porini Camp was established over a decade ago, on land leased from the local Maasai, several of whom now work at the camp as guides, cooks and watchmen. The Conservancy itself was filled with wildlife, including leopard, elephant, lion and gerenuk. A visit to an authentic Maasai village was certainly one of the many highlights of my stay.
