From

11. Sol Plaatjie House

Sol Plaatjie was a founder member and first Secretary General of the ANC, a writer, politician and journalist. His novel, Mhudi, was the first written in English by a black South African and he sang the first ever sound recording of Nkhosi Sikeleli Afrika, the freedom anthem that became the South African national anthem. His home, in Angel Street, Kimberley, is now a National Heritage Site.

12. Avalon Cemetery

A vast cemetery in Soweto, with some 300,000 occupants in 430 acres, this became the scene of mass demonstrations in the 1970s and 80s as thousands gathered to mourn the loss of those killed by police action. Amongst the famous people buried here are Hector Pieterson, Hastings Ndlovu, Joe Slovo, Lilian Ngoyi and Helen Joseph.

13. Liliesleaf Farm

This remote farmhouse in Rivonia was the headquarters of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the military wing of the ANC. From here they planned over 200 actions and it was here that most of the defendants in the Rivonia Trial were found, along with the evidence that led to their conviction. As a result Nelson Mandela, Denis Goldberg, Ahmed Kathrada, Andrew Mlangeni, Govan Mbeki, Walter Sisulu, Elias Motsoaledi and Raymond Mhlaba were sent to Robben Island.
